Year 1

Science week in Y1 Blue

Mon, 25/05/2015 - 14:43 -- Lydia Makram

Year 1 Blue had a great time in Science Week  full of fizzing, popping and exploding.  On Sunday and Monday we experimented with Baking Soda and Vinegar to cause a reaction.  We made rockets and had a competition to see who could make the highest flying rocket.  On Tuesday, Year 7 came across to help us find out what would happen when we mixed our ingredients and sealed them in a bag.  It was amazing to watch the bags expand, and some of them even burst open!

Year 1 outing

Tue, 19/11/2013 - 17:00 -- Lydia Makram

On Monday November 11, Year 1 went on an outing to explore the area around the school. Our particular focus was RUBBISH. We planned to compare and contrast the Consulate Gardens and nearby Mina Park to find out if the environment was being cared for? We found that there were beautiful trees, plants, flowers and grass in both places but that Mina Park had been spoiled by people dropping litter. The children described the rubbish as HORRIBLE, DISGUSTING, SMELLY and DANGEROUS. They sang the song, ‘Don’t drop rubbish, put it in the bin’.

International Day

Wed, 13/11/2013 - 13:45 -- Lydia Makram

This year the children in KS1 were asked to study part of the UK as their work for International Day. Year One chose WALES. During the week we did research and discovered many facts about Wales. We found out that it rains a lot there and that there are lots of sheep. Wales is famous for its castles, choirs and love of rugby. The emblems of Wales are the leek and the daffodil and the patron saint is St David. His special day is on March 1 when people wear a leek or a daffodil on their jackets.
