The British School, Alexandria recently staged the famous musical 'Oliver', Lionel Bart's adaption of Dicken's novel Oliver Twist. The Year 7s and 9s put on an abridged version of the 1960's musical and it’s the first time the Senior school has tackled a musical and wow what a show!
The Arabic department bestows the honor of congratulation to the school administration and to our student Youssef Sherif Saad for his excellent positive result in Arabic (highest mark in Egypt in Cambridge IGCSE examination June 2014) and wishes the school greater achievements and progress with the promise of more excellence in results in the Arabic language.
Debating Success for The British School in London
The British School, Alexandria visited Radnor House School, Twickenham, London on Monday and won the debating competition but only by the narrowest of margins.
The debate on leaders who've changed the world was prepared for in great detail by both teams. Speakers were confident, articulate and impressed with their passionate delivery.
Students from both schools enjoyed watching the debate. It's hoped that this will become an annual event.
Last Friday, Football teams from Prep school have enjoyed their football CIBSA tournament at BISC. Every team has done his best to win. Such a challenge! Children showed so much enthusiasm and had fun supporting their teams, as well as playing hard.
The teams were much better than last year our Girls team got the second place and both boys teams got the third place.
Finally, I would Like to thank Ms.Esraa and Ms. Biggs for their hard work with the girls football teams & Ms. Germain for the Support and the wonder photographs that she took.
Saturday 26th October was the 71st Anniversay of El Alamein, marked by a ceremony at the El Alamein site attended by veterans flown in from UK, New Zealand and Australia, and by the laying of wreaths by dignitaries from a wealth of nations.
Recently, students from Years 9 and 11 took part in the BSME Debating Tournament held at St Christopher’s School, Bahrain. This was the second year for this Tournament and the first time for our school to take part. The students debated nine motions, some of which they knew a couple of weeks in advance and some for which they only had an hour’s preparation; for some debates we were the Proposition and for others the Opposition. In addition, the accompanying teachers (Mr Abbott and Mrs Jackson) judged debates.
The week beginning the 20th October 2013 was Maths Week in Prep and Pre Prep. The teachers were asked to plan exciting lessons that encouraged children to work together and to carry out practical tasks. The focus was on problem solving and doing maths outside of the classroom.
On Thursday 24th October, all of the classess in Prep and Pre prep celebrated their favourite activities in their assembly.
Monday was the first day of the BSA Pre Prep Architectural club.
This term we will be focussing on sketching and planning skills, which the children will then apply to build their own models.
This week they looked at all the structures that they could see at the Abou Ella villa. They sketched different angles and looked carefully at the details.
Next week the children will plan a design for a new piece of playground equipment and then build it out of lego.
We hope to eventually plan a new layout for their dream school!
An enjoyable event for all participants. The weather was kind with light cloud and breeze. Two schools travelled from Cairo to Alexandria and the Africana Sports Field for the annual Striking and Fielding CIBSA. In the Year 3 and 4 Rounders Festival BSA finished a very creditable second, almost beating the BISC ‘A’ team, the eventual winners. In the year 5 and 6 Cricket Festival BSA finished in third position. Excellent team spirit was on display throughout the festival from both BSA teams. A day eagerly awaited by the children and large number of parents in attendance.
