The BSA’s Music Department aims to inspire pupils and enable them to enjoy their music making at all levels. Whether it be within the classroom or studying an instrument individually, we offer good facilities, tuition on a number of instruments, a lively and positive atmosphere and opportunities for performance.
Music is regarded as an essential element in the education of the whole child and plays an important part within the life of our schools. Every pupil from Year 2 to Year 13 has the opportunity to either learn an instrument or sing in a choir.
For pupils to get the richest experience from performing music, we believe that a thorough knowledge and understanding of the elements of music is essential. Performances at a variety of levels will take place over the coming year, with students being encouraged to take part as soon as they are able to.
Music Department at the Heron Campus is where the Senior class music lessons and individual tuition takes place. The department has two teaching practice rooms which are used for individual music lessons and small group rehearsals. There are also two music classrooms (one in Prep and one at Heron) which are used for group teaching, and these are well-equipped with instruments, including a variety of tuned and untuned percussion, keyboards and music software.
Instrumental lessons take place after school, and are given by professional, qualified instrumental teachers. The fee structure and further details about how to sign up your child can be obtained from Ms Manal Saber, PA to Principal at the Wilson Building or via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Throughout a pupil’s time at BSA, the key focus will be on the development of aural skills, using instruments and voice. Pupils are introduced to the concepts of pitch, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, duration, timbre, texture and beat. At present, individual music tuition is offered on the following instruments: violin, guitar (classical), piano, and drums.
Instrumental music tuition follows the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music taken at the Bibliotecha Alexandrina and those preparing will have the chance to perform in one of our Lunchtime Concerts.
We wish all our students Happy Music-making!!!
